Black Friday Smashes Mobile Sales Record. (Over $1 billion in Sales)

On November 26, 2016 Adobe announced some mouth watering performance numbers for the online retail industry, specifically for mobile. Here’s a look at some of the numbers that confirm consumers are shifting to mobile for their purchasing needs this season.

Mobile Sees A Sharp Increase

  • $1.2 billion spent on mobile devices
  • First day in history mobile devices brought in over $1 billion (33 percent YoY increase)
  • Mobile driving majority of visits to retail websites at 55 percent (45 percent smartphone, 10 percent tablet)

  • 36 percent of sales coming from mobile (25 percent smartphone, 11 percent tablet)
  • Retailers who invested in mobile, email and social saw 30 percent higher sales and 25 percent higher average order values.

  • Average Order Value on Android is $130

Overall Spend

  • $5 billion spent online by the end of Black Friday (17.7 percent increase compared with 2015)
  • First time ever >$3 billion spent at $3.34 billion (21.6 percent increase YoY)
  • PlayStation 4 is the best selling video game console followed by Microsoft Xbox and Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Thanksgiving Day

  • Consumers spent $1.93 billion on Thanksgiving day (11.5 percent more than 2015)
  • Mobile accounted for 57 percent of visits and 40 percent of sales ($771 million)
