4 Simple Ways to Celebrate Customer Service Week
Next week is customer service week! The first full week of October every year is dedicated to the customer service professionals we interact with every day — from the barista who prepares your morning brew to the chat agent who helps you with an online order. whether you’re a customer or you manage a team of customer service pros, celebrating the week is all about showing appreciation for the hard work these professionals do every single day. Showing appreciation doesn’t have to be complicated, either. Simple gestures can go a long way. Here are four easy ways to show your appreciation during the week.
Give a sincere thank you
We interact with customer service staff so often that it’s easy to take the work they do for granted, and sometimes this means that common courtesies go overlooked. It might seem overly simple, but saying thank you goes a long way to helping them feel appreciated.
Next time you order that latte, take a moment to give a sincere thank you to the team behind the counter. This means more than saying ‘thank you’ as you walk away. Take a moment to explain the value that their outstanding service adds to your day-to-day. Maybe they make your coffee exactly the way you like it, without you needing to ask. Verbalizing your appreciation will go a long way to reciprocating the delight that they extend to you every morning.
Write a great review
In our fast-paced world, sometimes there just isn’t time to give a sincere thank you. Maybe you’re rushing to catch a flight or to get home to your family after a long day at work.
When you do have time, take a moment to write a review about the excellent customer service you received. You can do this through various channels, such as Google reviews, or even as a Tweet directly to the brand. This is a great way to reward good service by directing more customers to the brand. Referring to the person by name is an especially nice touch as it provides visibility to management so that they can extend formal recognition. If you’re not comfortable naming names publicly, a letter directly to a manager is a thoughtful alternative.
Bring a treat for your team
If you run a business, big or small, or manage a team of customer service professionals, be sure to carve out some time during the week to pause work and enjoy a special treat. During that time you might also give out awards and recognition to members of the team whose performance really stands out or highlight specific moments where the team worked together to provide outstanding service to a customer. If you run a brick and mortar business, you could even put out a box to collect positive comments and praise from customers, then take time to read through them with the team while enjoying your tasty treats!
